So I've fallen down a Logistics rabbit hole.
It all started when I was looking at the jobs available at the Antarctic Program, who don't need librarians (certainly not in Antarctica), so I started thinking laterally. And then I started looking at what jobs the ADF had available (they also don't need librarians - or so they think) as they would give me training and experience. It turns out the ADF also don't "need" people with IBS (regardless of what job they're doing and whether IBS would affect their ability to do that job) so that option's off the table. But, between the two of them, I've caught the logistics bug. I started looking into what was involved in logistics and supply roles, and by gum the field of Logistics tickles my fancy. It turns out I didn't know a thing about what was involved and, now that I do, I want to learn more.
When I thought the ADF was still on the cards, I was going to see if I could start in a warehouse and supply role to get some skills, licences and experience, and then maybe move on to higher level logistics stuff. Now the ADF is out of the picture, so I have to figure out how to do it myself, dangit.*
Which is a bit trickier than I thought because my research** has revealed there's a weird training-experience-employment vortex thing happening where it's easier to get a job if you have training and experience, and it's also easier to get training and experience if you have a job...
And I've been thinking about maybe doing a degree or a diploma, but all of the programmes that look particularly interesting are in places that are both "not where I am" and also "not where I'm going" and are only on campus. So I have to decide if I'm interested enough in this new (to me) and exciting field to actually commit to moving somewhere specifically to get into logistics, and do the whole "be a real student" thing again, and find a way to support myself in uni student mode when I'm used to having a real job...
Anyway, I'm getting a forklift licence. Maybe.

*I also have to figure out how to make the positive impacts on my health and lifestyle that the ADF would have given me, myself, which is quite annoying.
**I'm a librarian, of course I'm researching the dickens out of something as simple as "maybe I could get a job in a warehouse"?
